It's officially here!
When it comes to the changing of seasons, I like to welcome them in meaningful ways. You can read about that here. I'm lucky enough to live in a place that experiences all four seasons but if we're not careful, they bleed into one another without us noticing.
Let's usher in this new season and take a purposeful pause together.
Soup, Soup and More Soup
I've already made two different soups before the calendar actually confirmed it was fall. I am not the main cook in our house but when it comes to soup, I can hold my own. It's hard to beat soup simmering on the stove while its blustery outside. I whole heartedly love all soups but one of my all time favorites is Italian Wedding Soup. And I make a pretty cozy one. So does Wegmans whos recipe I loosely follow.
Scents
I have a pretty strong sense of smell as well as scent memories. So when it comes to fall, I don't mess around. I love all the typical smells but my favorite one is free; fresh air. After the AC has been pumping all summer, I love nothing more than opening all the windows and air out the house. There's something about the smell of fresh air mixed with your own house smell, a little bit of laundry and whatever is cooking in the kitchen. My goal one day is to have a Cozy Mercantile line of candles!
Comfort Movies
I am BIG on comfort movies. Actually, I really don't like to watch anything new. I like to know what's going to happen and I like movies that make me feel a certain way. Fall is the ultimate season for comfort movies and I believe there are certain ones that you can really only watch in the fall. Here are my all time favs and ones I try to watch every year:
Practical Magic
Little Women ('94 version only)
Mona Lisa Smile
You've Got Mail
Age of Adeline
P.S. I Love You
Tea
I may or may not be the biggest tea drinker around. Unfortunately coffee and I have a love/hate relationship so we've broken up for awhile. Truth be told, I don't really need coffee. I just like to have something warm to drink especially when the weather turns. I love the process of making tea, actually turning on the kettle, pouring in the loose tea leaves, letting it brew. It's just a great pause in the day.
Walks
Walking is one of my favorite things to do. And the best time, I think, is the bookend months. Throwing on the house sweater and taking a stroll in the neighborhood does wonders for my mind and shoulders, especially if I've been hunched over painting. Not everything can be solved by going for a walk but nothing can be made worse by going for a walk!
I'd love to hear in the comments on how you like to welcome fall!
