For my birthday this year (July 31st) we happened to find our selves in New York City for 48 hoursish. I've been to the city MANY times in my life, mostly to see the Christmas City Spectacular at Radio City. So this time I wanted to explore and see something different.
We drove in on Sunday the 30th and checked into our hotel, The Broadway Plaza Hotel, and set out exploring. There was so. much. walking. I really wanted to have lunch at The Ear Inn but I think New Yorkers eat on different time schedules because brunch was still happening at 3pm. And were in a lunch mood. So we started walking and found ourselves in at the GMT Tavern on Bleecker St. where we had a pint and a delicious chicken sandwich. It was the coolest place with old wooden beams and bar with dimly lit sconces. My kinda place.

There were a few spots I wanted to see like Washington Square Park, Eataly, Fishs Eddy, the brownstones in the West Village. We managed to hit up all those places. Fishs Eddy is this awesome shop with all vintage and repurposed wares. Plates, bowls, cups everything you can imagine. I didn't buy anything but I imagined what my someday brick and mortar could feel like.

Dinner was at The Smith right across the street from our hotel which was so nice. My feet were feeling it by then. We split everything, what we call it honeymooning. Because on our honeymoon, we split all our meals so we could try everything and save money. I had truffle arancini balls over arugula and some of the best fish tacos I've had.

Then on Monday, my actual birthday, I did a little shopping in Times Square. I'd forgotten how overwhelming Times Square was but I managed to find goods at the Levi store and Sephora! Then more walking, more site seeing.
There was a restaurant I wanted to try called Jack and Charlie's. I heard it was really good in a beautiful building so we walked there for happy hour. They had pretzels with homemade whipped mustard butter. Did not disappoint!

Back to the hotel for birthday dinner at Oscar Wilde right around the corner from our hotel. Built in 1909 and took on the role of the Prohibition Headquarters in 1919, it was decked out in an Alice in Wonderland theme. It was wild but cozy and the food was delicious. Grilled octopus, chicken dumplings. and amazing cheesecake for dessert.

33!

An early morning back home on Tuesday and I was thankful to be back in our cozy quiet space.
